The dealer, named Jianming Li from Delaware, along with casino patron Jun Na Zhang from New York, faced charges after two events in November 2019.
Authorities reported that Li committed the card sequence to memory and disclosed it to Zhang under the plan in the casino’s high-limit area.
Both individuals received sentences for two charges of fraud and cheating over $1,000, along with one charge of larceny exceeding $1,200 through a single scheme.
Li received a 364-day sentence, which was deferred for two years.
Zhang received a 364-day sentence that required him to spend six months in jail. It was also put on hold for two years.
Bus Driver Killed Due to Gambling Debt
A man from San Jose, California, was accused of murder after he reportedly killed a colleague due to a gambling debt.
On September 22, Duc Minh Bui, age 33, was accused of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Regulus “Reggie” Teotico, who was 45 years old.
Both were employed by the Valley Transportation Authority, and the victim was shot on September 20 at the Chaboya Division Yard, as reported by People magazine.
Teotico and Bui frequently hung out together after their work shifts.
“They were known to participate in the same activities outside of their VTA employment,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Capt. Sugey Jaimez told The Mercury News, a California news outlet. “We believe the motive had to do with money owed between the two from their betting activities, which had nothing to do with their employment.”
Suspect Had Another Person Claim Prizes: Police
A man was apprehended this week after reportedly having another casino patron gather his $2,500 winnings.
Henry Rogan, 61, from Terre Haute, Indiana, was apprehended on Tuesday for the scheme at Bally’s Casino in Evansville, Ind. He was taken into custody at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
In 2022, officers from the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) notified Rogan in the casino that allowing another person to claim a jackpot is a crime, as reported by Indiana TV station WEVV.
Rogan stated that he allowed the other individual to gather the cash since that person had earlier provided him with funds to gamble, according to police. Rogan also mentioned that the two men frequently “played together” at Bally’s Casino. During additional questioning, Rogan confessed to the officers that he had outstanding child support payments. This would imply that the state would confiscate any casino earnings to pay off the overdue child support.
Subsequently, the IGC officials interrogated the other individual. According to police, he actually didn't know Rogan and asserted that Rogan contacted him regarding joining the scheme. The police noted that the two men were unfamiliar with each other prior to that.
