Atlantic City Teens Arrested for Armed Robbery at Tropicana Casino

15 August 2024

Following a heinous holdup in the Tropicana Atlantic City, five boys—none of them were more than fifteen—were recently taken into custody.

According to an ACPD statement made on Wednesday, the teenagers approached the unidentified man last Friday night before one of the boys took out a huge knife and held it up to the victim's back.

Attacked Victim

Before escaping, the teenagers gave the man an order to surrender his belongings and physically abused him. The degree of his wounds and the specifics of what was taken are unknown.

At around 8 p.m. on Friday, the robbery was reported to the local police. Officers from Atlantic City police and security guards at Tropicana soon obtained photographs of the suspects from surveillance cameras in the casino and gave them to officers.

The casino is situated on the Boardwalk, and each of the suspects was captured not far from there.

Three of the teenagers were seen by Atlantic City officers William Harned and Julian Monsalve on South Texas Avenue. The guys attempted to escape, but the authorities followed and they were taken into custody.

A fifth adolescent was observed on Arctic Avenue, while another youngster was captured close by on Atlantic Avenue.  After a while, the officers caught up to the fleeing man.

Big Blade Found

When the suspect noticed the police, he threw a bag. There was a big knife inside, which authorities suspect was used in the heist, according to Capt. Kevin Fair of the Atlantic City Police Department.

When authorities searched the teenagers, they found items that belonged to the victim.

There was one 15-year-old suspect. The other individuals were 14. The five teenagers were charged with robbery, conspiracy, simple assault, terroristic threats, theft, illegal possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. They were all assigned to juvenile correctional facilities. Initial press reports stated that none of the accused were hurt during their arrests.

The juvenile courts in New Jersey will hear their cases.

Because they were so young, police never disclosed any of their names. They're all based in Atlantic City.

It's unclear if the holdup was random or if the suspects had specifically targeted the victim.
